The naturalization of aliens in the city of Now York during the present year has been conducted in thocourt of common pleas. the superior court. and the su. ureme court. In the court of common pleas. where the law seems to have been faithfully executed end the records are properly kept. the records show a total of twentynine hundred and seventyeight certificates of citizenship issned from Juno 10 to the 25th of October. In the supreme court the books are said not to bo written up nor the records arranged. and the clerk has refused. after advisement. as is believed. by a judge of the court. to allow the records to be submitted to examination. In the supreme coert. one of the judges holding the circuit and oyerand terminer sat also in October for some twenty days for the purpose of naturalizing aliens. and his sessioits for this purpose frequently continued until late at night. During the progress of the work it is believed that no record whatever was kept. but that the original papers were htndled up and sent to the leis oits. where they are now being slowly arranged. The proccedings waere conducted in a manner but little calculated to inspire respect or the discretion of the court and the supremocy of the lower the dignity of American citizenship.
