Session #45 · 1877–79

Speech #450109320

I understand that to be the position of the Senator. I wish to give notice that on Wednesday next. at half past one oclock. if I can have the ear of the Senate. I shall ask that this bill be taken up and considered. I have heretofore called the attention of the Senate to the great importance of this measure. either for good or evil. to the Pacific coast. that the great immigration of the Chinese there is making of the Pacific States Chinese colonies and not American States. especially of California. I believe in that respect I speak the sentiments of every Senator and of every Representative in the other House from the Pacific slope. without regard to party. and on their behalf I most strongly urge the Senate. at the time I name. to allow action upon the bill.
