It is an -encoragement to those people to attend to their own business. which I am defighted to see is in their constitution. I have no doubt that .some good will come of that some of these days. This constitution -of 1793 was amended. in 1828: No person. who is not already a freeman of this State. shall be entitled to exercise the privlege of a freeman. unless he be a naturalborn citizen of this or some one of the United States. or until he shall have been naturalized agreeably to the aocts of Congress. � As late as 1828 the State of Vermont kept up this idea of freeman -as contradistinguished from a man who was not free. notwithstanding that that State has always been so full of the spirit of freedom that a slave could not live upon its soil. A man who had everbeen a slave could scarcely live there under the repressing influence of a -constitution like that. If that very language was put into the constitution of Alabama tomorrow as it is today in the constitution of Vermont.
