Session #45 · 1877–79

Speech #450051739

I do not ask it in the interest of the railroad companies. I ask it in favor of the settler. This is a privilege granted to the settler. and I am in favor of conferring that privilege upon the settler. If any of our citizens choose to emigrate to the West upon the line of this road. I think they are entitled to a homestead of one hundred and sixty acres iistead of being restricted to one of eighty acres. I ask not this in favor of any corporation. far from it. It is in the interest of the settler.
