Speech #450038803

I find in the second message of Abraham Lincoln that he alluded to the Territories of Colorado and Dakota in the following terms: The Territories of Colorado. Dakota. anl Nevada. created by the last angress. have been organiced. and civil adaisistraln has been inaguerated therein ceder auspices especially gratiyiog. when itis considered that the leaven of treason was foind existing in some of these new countries when the Federal officers arrived there. The abondant natural reseurces of these Territories with the secnrity and protection affhoded by organized government. will doubtless invite to thdem a large immigration when peace shall restore the bustoess of the eaoutry to its aceetomed channels. I submit thoresluione of the Logslature of Celoraile whieh evidene the patriotic spirit of the people of the Territory. So tar the Wsthority et the United Slates has bee uphel in all the Territories. as It is hoped it will hemi thofotoe. temmend their interests and defense to the enlightened and generous care of tngres i In a subsequent portion. speaking of the very class of men who settld this country. he says : No men living are more worthy fodbs trsted than those who toil np from poverty nane less inclined to take or touch aught which they have not honestly earned.
