Speech #450021714

These professions amount to nothing. The question here now is. was this a fraudulent naturalization ? I am aware people may make professions. but it is by their acts you are to judge them. It matters not what is said. The evidence of this case is uncoutradictedunentradicted. 1 repeat that this man was not entitled to naturalization. I say whether fraudulentnaturaliztion papers are procured by false evidence or they are by no evidence at all. whether they are issued by the clerk without the sanction of the court--however they may be issuedit is the duty.of the House to declare that they shall be unavailing to seat any man or to eject any man from his seat. I have endeavored. Air. Speaker. to present the issue in this case to my friends on the other side. And the question. and the only question is. is one more majority worth enough to be purchased at the expense of the ratification of the fraudulent naturalization papers of Peterson and a disregarding of a statute of the State of California. passed for a very proper purpose ? Mr. Speaker. how much time have I left ?
