There is no authority in the Constitution for depriving an American lady of her citizenship by the mere fact of her marriage to an alien. If she and her alien husband reside in the United States. she does and should remain a citizen after the marriage as fully as before it. It is only in the ease of her abandoning the United States and making her permanent home in the country and with the people of her husband that she should lose her American character and be rquired to naturalize on her return to this country after the death of her husband.
