In order to induce the Chinese to take tour dollar insteadt of the Mexican milled dollar. so that we might give to otr people a chance to export their silver in the form of coin. we authorized the holders of bullion to present their bullion at the mints of the United States to be coined into tradedollars contain iug four hn dred and twenty grain s of stan dard silver. The old dollar only contained four hundred and twelve and a half grains. so that the tradedollar contained seven and a half grains more of silver. and that made it a little more valuable that the Mexican dollar. which contained four hundred and sixteen grains of silver with a little less alloy than oars. -The tradedollar has a shade more value than any other dollar. and at once superseded the Mexican silver dollar in China. where they measure silver coins with tine greatest accuracy. Tile result was that the Government of the United States. by coining at tite expense of the holders of this bullion tradedollars. ha ve introduced into the commerce of the world a new money. which is now being absorbed largely in Japan and China and all Asiatic nations.
