Now. sir. to conclude my remarks. the whole effect. the whole object. the intent of this bill..is merely to say thatpublic lands in Louisiana. in Alabama. in Mississippi. in Florida and in Arkansas shall le hereafter liable to be purchased at $1.25 an acre or can be taken up with landwarrants in the same way that public lands can be taken np in Missouri. Iowa. and other States that have public lands. and the persons who have located homesteads in any of these States are in no way. shape. orform. in the most distant manner imaginable affeeted by this bill at all. It opens the gate to emigration to these States. which certainly ought to be done. The bill ought to pass. and the amendment of the Senator from Ohio is entirely unnecessary. and of course shonld not be adopted. I remember lie said to me yesterday if it does not affect the bill why not pass it ?
